The currency is the Botswana Pula (BWP). Travellers can exchange currency or South African Rands (ZAR) or BWP at Bureau de Change at Johannesburg International Airport, Gaborone Airport and at Commercial Banks in Maun, Kasane or South Africa. Banks in Botswana are open from Monday to Friday 08h30-15h30 and Saturdays 08h30-11h00. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are only accepted in major towns. BWP are accepted in commercial banks or at Bureau de Change in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Entry into Botswana is permitted for a maximum duration of 90 days.
Most Commonwealth and European countries (and the USA) are visa exempt. Please verify with your travel agent or consulate.
230 volt. Both square and round pin wall plugs.
No compulsory vaccinations required. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended
particularly in the northern areas of Botswana during the summer months of December - May.
