Victoria Falls Overview

The town of Victoria Falls is home to one of the most impressive natural wonders known to man, the mighty waterfall afterwhich it was named. Affectionately known as Mosi-O-Tunya, or ‘The Smoke That Thunders’, the Victoria Falls attracts visitors from all over the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the key attraction to an area rich in history, breathtaking landscape and adventure activities. Located on the Zambezi River which makes up the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, it is the world’s largest waterfall. The 1.7km sheet of water drops 110m into the Batoka Gorge below, creating a deafening roar and a spray that can reach up to 900m into the air at high water. The sheer scale of it is something to be admired, and the multiple viewing points within the park allow you to see this vast beauty from a number of different angles. The town of Victoria Falls is largely centred around it’s main attractions, with a number of lodges, tour companies and activities providers as well as a range of delicious restaurants.

Victoria Falls is Southern Africa’s undisputed adventure capital, with activities like bungee jumping, ziplining, bridge swinging, white river rafting and more! The Chobe National park is a mere one hour away, easily accessible by road for a day trip. The mighty Zambezi is teeming with wildlife and is a bird lover’s dream. A number of cruises take advantage of its rich and diverse banks for bird watching, spotting animals such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants and antelope and breathtaking sunsets. The Falls are at their greatest volume just after the summer rainfall between the months of February and May. The months of October and November are the driest, and therefore the Falls emits less spray at this time yet offering spectacular panoramic views. With a number of Victoria Falls accommodation options to choose from, ranging from luxury lodges to well-appointed campsites, there’s something for every traveller’s preference and budget.
