A shuttle bus from ORT International Airport takes you to the starting hotel. The day is free and the tour starts with a pre departure meeting at 18h00 in the reception of the hotel. Overnight at Safari Club (or similar). (Accommodated. Dinner own account).
Departing Johannesburg after breakfast we travel the scenic panorama route to our boutique hotel located in the Lowveld area of Mpumalanga. Overnight at Hippo Hollow (or similar). (Accommodated – B. Dinner own account).
The morning is spent viewing the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, Gods Window viewpoint and Bourkes Luck Potholes, en-route to the famous Timbavati Private Game Reserve situated in the Greater Kruger National Park. Shindzela tented safari camp provides guests with a true safari experience in a private game reserve – an ideal way to make the most of your Kruger safari holiday. Day 3 we enjoy a late afternoon game drive and Day 4 we enjoy morning & afternoon game drives in search of the many animals inhabiting the reserve. Overnight Shindzela Tented Camp (or similar). Up at sunrise we exit Timbavati and enter the Kruger National Park at Phalaborwa gate. A full day game drive is enjoyed as we traverse north, exiting the park through the Pafuri gate to our lodge in the Limpopo Province where we experience a taste of the local Venda culture. Day 5 we have dinner in a nearby cave. Day 6 is an early start with a walk to view some rock paintings returning to camp for breakfast. We then depart for a full day cultural tour which includes a visit to a local village, tavern & a school. Dinner is enjoyed in Venda style in the local village.Overnight Awelani Lodge (or similar). An early departure takes us 2 hours to Beit Bridge border post where we cross into Zimbabwe. Entering Zimbabwe we travel to our lodge located on the edge of the World Heritage site – Matopos National Park. The following day is spent on a historic trek to Rhodes grave and walks to renowned caves and Bushman paintings. Our lodge is set within the large granite boulders of the Matopos. Overnight Camp Amalinda (or similar). (Accommodated – B & D)
Travelling through Zimbabwe we arrive early afternoon to Hwange National Park. We enjoy a late afternoon open 4×4 vehicle game drive in the private concession bordering Hwange National Park. The following morning we enjoy another game drive in the concession and in the afternoon relax at the lodge or an optional game drive (own expense). Overnight Ivory Lodge (or similar). We arrive midday to Victoria Falls – without doubt one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa (entrance own account). The days are free to browse the local markets and to experience the many optional activities on offer in the adrenalin capital of Africa including helicopter flights over the Falls, sunset boat cruise etc (own expense). Crossing into Botswana we travel to Kasane and our lodge situated on the banks of the Chobe River. Chobe is famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets and abundance of wildlife and birdlife. The following day is spent on an early morning Game drive in Chobe National Park and a sunset Game viewing boat cruise on the Chobe River. Overnight Chobe Safari Lodge (or similar). This is the rainy season for Namibia & Botswana. Hot & humid with some days bright and sunny and others grey & wet with cooling afternoon thunderstorms.
Rainy season is over! Colorful and lush with clear blue skies. Moderate day temperatures with game starting to concentrate around permanent water as pans start to dry out.
No rain with crisp, clear days around 25 degrees and night temperatures 0-10 degrees. Game viewing excellent and migratory birds start arriving in August. Best time for safari!
The driest month of the year with daily temperatures 30+ degrees. Excellent time for big game safaris.
Hot days with the start of the afternoon African thuderstorms. This is Calving season and good game viewing with many migrant birds present.
